Stages Of Group Development Group development is broken down into five stages. These stages are forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. The following is a description of how our group passed through each of these stages. Forming In the first stage our group was formed. Each member of our group introduced themselves. We basically made small talk in an effort to relieve some of the initial awkwardness. We discussed our expectations of the project; we then talked about when and where our meeting would be. We had to figure out when all of the group members were available and to find a convenient place to meet that was accessible by all members. Storming In the storming stage our group members began to take on specific roles. Mandy and Cory seemed equally capable of taking on the leadership role. As we each tried to establish our own identity within the group, we found out what was expected of us from other members. We didn’t have an official leader, but if one person had to be named I’m sure all of the group would agree on Mandy. Norming During this stage are we pooled our individual thoughts and expectations together. We discovered that we were all in agreement on how the project should be executed. Discussions concerning the project went smoothly after this point and more progress was made. In this stage I discovered that I had a higher degree of cohesiveness with Mandy than with other group members. This could be due to the fact that Mandy and I were the only female members in the group. It could also be due to the fact that Mandy was the group â€Å"leader† and I looked to her for information on group meetings. Performing In this stage our group shifted from discussing and establishing objectives to actually taking the actions necessary to accomplish them. We finished our surveys and began to pass them out to be completed. Each member of our group was responsible to carry out the task effectively and within the designated time limit.

If you think back 10 or 20 years ago, you may wonder how we ever did some of the things we are able to now. Technology shapes our society in a number of different ways. Before the invention of the internet, there wasn't email. Many people in the business world communicate solely with email and without it, they are lost. Have you ever lost your internet connection or networking device? You are literally stuck in a mess and have no idea what to do. Think back the first cell phones that were available, before the days of text messaging and blue tooth. Technology is essential in our society in order to grow and move toward the future. With the rising technology, a lot of issues have been done that have remained to be puzzle to many living in the twenty first century. This has further triggered a debate on the appropriate definition of the term technology. With others criticizing technology, most proponents of technology have suggested that technology refers to the employing the use of a variety of tools and approaches in the finding or deriving at possible solutions to certain problems. Technology has been associated with a variety of negative events that befell mankind and other creatures existing in the universe. However, the benefits have greatly surpassed the negatives associated with technology. Technology has played an immense part towards influencing the lifestyles of the present generation. In a particular, the emergence of internet services has given a great boost to the business industry. With it, We have the ability to shape the world we live in. The inventions we create allow us to transform our environment, explore the stars, connect societies across the world, and even extend our lifespan. The invention of the computer has brought economic and social change to the world. So what does the future of technology hold for our society? The possibilities are literally endless. Some of the key factors the government is working on surrounds information technology. With all the new innovations in technology, some people learn how to corrupt and abuse it. Protecting our individual privacy has become so important due to overwhelming cases of fraud and identity theft. The internet allows us to input personal information online for practically anyone to see. Social networking sites have become so popular that undercover policemen have stepped in to protect eople from rapists, murders, and pedophiles. There are tools and practices that exist to allow individuals control over their personal information, but it is not enough. Web site hacking goes along with individual privacy, but it impacts the future of several businesses. Government leaders are looking for ways to create a safe, secure and reliable computing environment for businesses and individuals. Protecting our children from inappropriate content is another popular topic among several businesses and government agencies. While the personal computer and the internet have revolutionized education, they have also opened the doors for exploration by curious children. Technology has allowed countries across the world to connect and interact without having to fly thousands of miles to communicate with each other. Governments and industries are able to communicate and work together towards the future. This allows successful countries to communicate with other countries who lack essential resources and help them find ways to combat their challenges. Digital information can be sent with the click of a button. Software, books, music and video files can be easily distributed to anyone, anywhere. For users, this is beneficial because for no cost, they can share videos of their new baby being born to their family who lives across the country. Of course, the government has had to step in to protect property rights of individuals to ensure that nothing is being digitally stolen. We should look at technology at the gateway to the future. The possibilities of what we can create are endless. Even as we have challenges with technology, we are still able to see amazing things come from it. Technology plays a critical role in our society. Creating technology that is secure and trustworthy is the future. Several companies are working together to achieve this goal and to help our society move forward. Technologies arise to satisfy our wants and needs, this is how society and technology shape the future for one another. As individuals, we are in control of the future. We should dream big and start finding ways to make our dreams into reality.

How Teachers Must Handle a Lazy Student

One of the most frustrating aspects of teaching is dealing with a lazy student. A lazy student can be defined as a student who has the intellectual ability to excel but never realizes their potential because they choose not to do the work necessary to maximize their capability. Most teachers will tell you that they would rather have a group of struggling students who work hard, than a group of strong students who are lazy. It is extremely important that teachers evaluate a child thoroughly before labeling them as lazy. Through that process, teachers may find that there is much more going on than just simple laziness. It is also important that they never label them as such publicly. Doing so can have a lasting negative impact that stays with them throughout life. Instead, teachers must always advocate for their students and teach them the skills necessary to overcome whatever obstacles are keeping them from maximizing their potential. Example Scenario A 4th-grade teacher has a student who is consistently failing to complete or turn in assignments. This has been an ongoing issue. The student scores inconsistently on ​formative assessments and has average intelligence. He participates in class discussions and group work but is almost defiant when it comes to completing written work. The teacher has met with his parents on a couple of occasions. Together you have tried to take away privileges at home and at school, but that has proved to be ineffective in deterring the behavior. Throughout the year, the teacher has observed that the student has trouble writing in general. When he does write, it is almost always illegible and sloppy at best. In addition, the student works at a much slower pace on assignments than his peers, often causing him to have a much bigger load of homework than his peers have.​ Decision: This is an issue that almost every teacher faces at some point. It is problematic and can be frustrating for teachers and parents. First, having parental support on this issue is essential. Second, it is important to determine whether or not there is an underlying issue impacting the students ability to complete the work accurately and in a timely manner. It may turn out that laziness is the issue, but it may also be something else entirely. Maybe Its Something More Serious As a teacher, you are always looking for signs that a student may need specialized services such as speech, occupational therapy, counseling, or special education. Occupational therapy appears to be a possible need for the student described above. An occupational therapist works with children who are developmentally lacking fine motor skills  such as handwriting. They teach these students techniques that allow them to improve and overcome these deficiencies. The teacher should make a referral to the schools occupational therapist, who will then do a thorough evaluation of the student and determine whether or not occupational therapy is necessary for them. If it is deemed necessary, the occupational therapist will begin to work with the student on a regular basis to help them obtain the skills they are lacking. Or It May Be Simple Laziness It is necessary to understand that this behavior will not change overnight. It is going to take time for the student to develop the habit of completing and turning in all their work. Working together with the parent, put a plan together to ensure that they know what assignments he needs to complete at home each night. You can send a notebook home or email the parent a list of assignments each day. From there, hold the student accountable for getting their work completed and turned in to the teacher. Inform the student that when they turn in five missing/incomplete assignments, they will have to serve a Saturday school. Saturday school should be highly structured and monotonous. Stay consistent with this plan. As long as the parents continue to cooperate, the student will begin to form healthy habits in completing and turning in assignments.
